Academic Writing Series III: Writing Effective Abstracts, with Julia Sturm
on Thursdays, 21 May and 28 May 2026 at 6:00PM CEST (via Zoom)

The Writing Effective Abstracts workshop is back! In this writing workshop series, we’ll talk about how to write compelling conference abstracts and put these techniques into practice; the goal is for each participant to have a good working draft of a conference abstract by the end of the series. No previous experience with conferences or abstracts is required.

The first meeting will take place on Thursday, 21 May 2026 at 6pm CET. Please come with an idea for an abstract you’d like to write for a specific upcoming conference of your choice (e.g., the WeCIEC deadline is 1 June)! No writing preparation is required for this first meeting- we’ll talk about how to turn your idea into a succinct and persuasive first draft. Please bring the call for papers for your chosen conference, so that you may easily reference the due date/guidelines/word count.

The second meeting will take place on Thursday, 28 May 2026 at 6pm CET. This meeting will pick up where the first meeting left off, working with the abstract drafts which we’ve already begun developing. At the end of this brief series, we hope you’ll have an abstract well on its way to submission to a conference!
